Carlstrom Family Green Space

The Carlstrom Family Green Space or “Green Space” for short is located on the second level of the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie. It is a free, self-directed studio space open to visitors of all ages. Since 2009, it has provided a welcoming environment where individuals and families can explore, experiment, and respond to art through hands-on activities inspired by the gallery’s exhibitions and themes.

The space features workstations stocked with art supplies, projects for all skill levels, and easels, encouraging visitors to immerse themselves in the creative process. Whether trying out a new technique, sketching ideas, or creating a collaborative piece, everyone is invited to engage with art in their own way.

Each year, approximately 4,000 visitors utilize the Carlstrom Family Green Space, making it a vibrant hub for artistic exploration. The impact extends beyond the gallery walls—by providing a welcoming, accessible space for creative expression, the Green Space helps foster imagination, confidence, and a deeper connection to the arts. Visitors can choose to display their creations in the space or take them home to share with family and friends, ensuring that the joy of making art continues beyond their visit.
